A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and incapable after he was found lying in the middle of a busy road in Northampton.

Police were called to Horsemarket, near the Greyfriars junction, at 8.40am this morning after reports a man was causing an obstruction to cars in the road.

The man, who was not involved in a collision with a car, was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment.

He was later arrested by officers on suspicion of being drunk and incapable.
