Polar explorer to receive Honorary Fellowship from University of Northampton

A polar explorer who led the first-ever return journey to the South Pole on foot is to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Northampton.

Ben Saunders, who set a world-record by trekking to the South Pole via Shackleton and Scott’s route in 2013–14, will receive his award at a ceremony at the Royal & Derngate next Tuesday.

More than 2,000 students will be graduating from the University of Northampton during 11 ceremonies.

Other individuals chosen for honarary fellowships include Martin Lawrence, CrimeStoppers Universities ambassador and soical enterprise guru Marina Kim.

Christine Powley-Williams, a leather expert and a director of the Shoe and Allied Trades Research Association (SATR). will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the university.
