Pieces of rubble from Northampton's Greyfriars Bus Station site to be sold for £39
People in Northampton are being offered the chance to buy pieces of rubble from the site of the former Greyfriars Bus Station for £39 each.
Artist Sayed Sattar Hasan recovered 51 ‘unique gems’ from the debris of the demolition site before it was cleared last year.
Hasan has put all the pieces of rubble together for a project known as Jewels of Greyfriars, which will be officially unveiled at NN Contemporary Art on Saturday at 2pm.
Members of public will be able to buy the stones from the NN Contemporary Art gift shop for £39. All profits from the project will support NN Contemporary Art’s public exhibition and event programmes.
Hasan said: “Home towns can feel like starting places where futures are imagined elsewhere, but who’s to know where you end up. In a world of turmoil where people risk their lives to journey somewhere better, and global cities that financially cripple people trying to live in them, Northampton, isn’t that bad.
“After recently moving back here, I started to view my relationship with it (Northampton) in a different way. Wherever I dream of being, Northampton is part of a constellation of places, people and things that have a bearing on my life. These connections are important to me, so I use my artistic practice to explain why.”
