A VJ Day service was held at Northampton’s Holy Sepulchre Church on Saturday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan and the end of World War Two.
The service paid tribute to all those who served in the armed forces, including veterans from Britain’s then Empire and beyond, who helped secure allied victory during the Second World War.
Two minutes of silence was held and wreaths were laid at the Holy Sepulchre’s Burma Star Memorial.
Councillor Mary Markham, leader of Northampton Borough Council, attended the service alongside Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Penelope Flavell, members of Northampton Borough Council, Colonel John Royle representing the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire and members of the Royal British Legion.
Councillor Markham said: “It is important for us to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by service personnel both to our lives today and throughout history.”
