People of all ages set off from Delapre Abbey on two wheels this morning for The Tour Ride Northamptonshire.

The event aimed to follow on from the success of the Aviva Women’s Tour, which ended in Kettering on the June 19 and saw world champion Lizzie Armitstead win the Yellow Jersey at the end of the Northamptonshire stage.

Today cyclists could choose a 10-mile fun ride taking in some of the county’s bridle ways and canal towpaths, but those looking for a tougher test could try longer routes.

The 40-mile Challenge Ride took riders up some of the county’s toughest hills as the route wound its way to the HIGH5 Feed station at Daventry Leisure Centre.

An 80-mile route followed the roads the professional women rode on Stage 5 of the Aviva Women’s Tour, including both of the Strava Queen of the Mountain climbs in Daventry and Naseby.

All the routes started and finished in the grounds of Delapre Abbey, where there were also a number of activities to enjoy including children’s “crazy bikes” and mountain bike stunt shows.
