Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in Wellingborough's Swansgate car park.

A spokesman for Northants Police said the 20-year-old woman was walking with friends between 3.15pm and 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday) when they were stopped by a man, who appeared to have been drinking.

He asked the group questions and requested their ID.

The group walked away but the offender approached them again and this time pushed the woman in the chest and attempted to punch her.

The offender is described as white, in his mid-40s, 6ft, of a medium build and with short greying hair.

He wore a burgundy bomber style jacket with a black pocket on the arm, blue jeans and was holding a coffee cup.
