Tree of Light shines at Northampton hospital to remember those who are lo longer with us

Dozens turned out to remember their loved ones who won't be here this Christmas at the 'Light Up a Life' event last week.

The Tree of Light, at the Billing road entrance of Northampton General Hospital, has been dedicated to over 140 loved ones who have passed away or who have been gifted a light by a loved one.

Dozens of residents turned out to the service on Thursday (December 5).

Each light on the tree has been sponsored in the name of someone who has passed away and can't be here this Christmas.

The lights displayed on the tree will serve as a tribute to family, friends and patients who may not be here or who have been nominated to have a light dedicated to them.

Alison McCulloch, head of fundraising at the Northamptonshire Health Charity thanked the public for their support “We would like to thank everyone who has supported our Light Up a Life evening. We are honoured that we can help the local community to remember and celebrate their loved ones at this time of year and are delighted to see so many lights pledged on the tree. This is our first tree lighting evening at Northampton General Hospital and we hope people will enjoy some festive cheer when they visit the hospital.

“It is also a chance for us to reflect and thank everyone who has fundraised for the charity and helped us to provide support to local NHS organisations. We hope to continue working with the public next year and raise even more money to support our hospitals”.
