A new festival celebrating African and Caribbean cultures in Northampton at the weekend went so well organisers plan to make it a yearly event.

The African and Caribbean Festival brought live music, food, arts, crafts and literature to The Lab on Charles Street on Saturday (November 30).

Anne Wankiiri, from the United African Association who organised the event, said it was great to see people of all backgrounds come together and have fun.

"It was just to get the community together as it's so diverse and it was fantastic to get people of all cultures, races and religions together," she said.

Northampton mayor Nazim Choudary was among the guests, as well as other borough councillors, who seemed to enjoy the festival, Anne said.

"People were asking when it's happening again and I think we will," she added.
