Northampton's mayor officially opens new care home...having helped make it a reality

Kingsthorpe residents of recently opened extra care home were treated to a plentiful supply of cakes; big band swing and a Mayoral ribbon cutting at the official opening.

Balmoral Place Mears is a new development which provides affordable housing and care for people over 55 years old in Northampton.

The centre which includes 80 flats, also has accommodation for family members who want to come and visit; a new kitchen and dining area for residents and even an on-site hairdresser.Naz Choudary, the new Mayor of Northampton was on hand to open the centre. He said: “This is a great facility for residents. Having been shown around I can see that every effort has been made to make these homes comfortable whatever someone’s care needs.

“Having sat on the planning committee which granted planning permission to Balmoral Place it is particularly pleasing to see these plans come to fruition.”

Katie Arlow, the service manager for Balmoral Place, said: “Thank you to the Mayor and Councillor Jonathan Nunn for coming along to support us. The tenants had a lovely afternoon I thought it was an extremely rewarding and successful event. They are looking forward to adding lots of pics to the new notice board!”
