A team of students from the University of Northampton are planning an exhibition that they hope will immerse the public in their ‘absurd representation of a world full of mystery and fantasy’.

Charlotte Rudge, Chloe Collett, Megan Micallef and Paige Beasley are all in their second year of studying for an illustration degree.

The four students will each create illustrations that represent their own ideas of fantastical worlds.

Megan said: “It’s part of a university project where we had a brief to do an exhibition, market stall, pop-up shop or anything like that.

“We decided to do an exhibition because we thought it would be nice to do something interactive that everyone can enjoy.

“Our goal is to immerse you into our absurd representation of a world full of mystery and fantasy, each section of this world unique to each of us.”

Ahead of the exhibition that will be held at Northampton Royal & Derngate next month, the students are working on their own artwork.

Charlotte is looking at ‘murderous London’ set during the Victorian era and Chloe is creating a visual of the inverse of what we know, exploring the ‘impossible’.

For the exhibition, Megan is telling the stories of those who have ‘crossed the forest into a different world’ and Paige is creating a 3D installation of how ‘society is destroying the beauty that is mother nature’.

Megan added: “The inspiration for this exhibition stems from our collective interest in the unusual and fantasy themes, we all have a great interest in the world of fantasy, delving into our own minds and unraveling a world we could never live in.

“Many people seek the thrill of being within a world that is not our own, a reality that does not exist, an escape from normalcy, which is why we have decided to create a world people can explore, a reality to get lost in.”

The exhibition, which is free to the public, will be in the foyer of the Royal & Derngate on March 23 between 6pm and 9pm.
