Northampton school goes on parade to mark silence for Remembrance Day

A Northampton all-through school held a full military parade today to mark a moment of silence for Remembrance Day.

Some 2,000 members of the Duston School's community took part in the service on the academy's grounds today (November 11))Guards made up of the school's combined cadet force (CCF) marched under the instruction of veteran and assistant head of Y10 Kolby Johnson.The school fell silent at 11am to mark two minutes of remembrance, followed by a minute's applause.Second World War pilots Eddie Habderley and Maurice Marriott were guests of honour for the parade, who also held a series of assemblies to tell the pupils about their first-hand experiences of the Second World War.Principal Sam Strickland said: "It was an absolutely exceptional day and the school community did itself proud."It was humbling that the pupils were able to carry it with the level of respect that they did."It was really moving to hear from our veterans and for them to be able to talk about their experiences first-hand from 75 years ago. It was really captivating for pupils."
