Just under £1,500 has been raised for the Fair Deal for Kids appeal thanks to fundraising efforts by the team at Novacroft in Northampton.

The Fair Deal for Kids fund, launched in 2015, is the direct result of a partnership between Northamptonshire Community Foundation and the Chronicle & Echo.

It is a dedicated fund for community groups and volunteer organisations that focus on tackling child poverty across the county and was chosen as Novacroft’s Charity of the Year 2019 following a company-wide vote.

Debra Charles, Novacroft Founder and CEO, said: “It’s heartbreaking to know that so many children are living in poverty in Northamptonshire. Fair Deal for Kids is an amazing cause, truly helping communities thrive as best they can.

"By making a difference to children in Northamptonshire, Fair Deal for Kids is supporting not only the future of our county but of the country too. Everyone at Novacroft is proud to have been part of that in 2019.”

Child poverty was highlighted as a priority need in Northamptonshire in the Hidden Needs Report commissioned by Northamptonshire Community Foundation in 2018.

Rachel McGrath, deputy CEO of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted that Novacroft has chosen to back our Fair Deal for Kids appeal and raise much needed funds to tackle child poverty in Northampton.

"We know that child poverty can have devastating consequences for a young person’s wellbeing. Many children in poverty can’t afford to have their friends around, travel to see friends or meet friends to eat out. It may mean feelings of exclusion, embarrassment, anxiety, feeling worried about parents, being bullied and judged and left with fewer opportunities.

"The generous funds raised will go towards projects providing free activities and support to children to reduce the burden on low-income families that can’t afford some of the things others take for granted.”

Northamptonshire Community Foundation is the leading independent grant-making charity in the county, working with fundholders and donors to ensure projects make a sustainable impact on local need.
