People in Northampton are being encouraged to shop locally next Saturday as part of an annual event highlighting the contribution small businesses make to the town’s economy.
Leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor Mary Markham, and the members of Northampton Borough Council cabinet will be visiting independent traders across Northampton on Small Business on Saturday, December 5.
Now in its third year, Small Business Saturday is a not-for-profit campaign which highlights small business success and encourages the UK to support small businesses.
The event is a way of raising awareness of the contribution independent businesses make to the economy and encouraging people to shop locally and Northampton Borough Council is offering free parking all day on December 5 and every Saturday in the run up to Christmas in all council car parks.
Leader of Northampton Borough Council, Councillor Mary Markham, said: “Small businesses are really important in our towns and cities and are vital to the success of the economy.
“There are many small businesses in Northampton which are thriving and provide visitors with a unique customer experience. Small businesses meet local needs and are well placed to build personal relationships with customers.”
Small businesses can post their ideas and plans on the Small Business Saturday page on Facebook or follow the national Twitter campaign @SmallBizSatUK
