Pensioner assualted by drunk man who had fallen over a plant pot

A pensioner was left with a two-inch gash on his head after he was assaulted by a drunken man outside his house.

The pensioner, who is in his eighties, noticed the drunk staggering up the drive of his home in College Street, Higham Ferrers at about 4.20pm on Monday, February 24.

When he challenged him, the drunk became abusive and claimed he had lost his way. He was then ushered off the property buy the pensioner, who closed the gate behind him.

But the drunk man then pushed the gate back towards the pensioner, hitting him in the head, leaving him with a cut.

The man was white, about 40-years-old, with messy grey hair and a local accent.

He was between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in, had an unshaven face and was wearing a grey tracksuit.

He may have had a small cut close to his mouth after falling over a plant pot.
