Pedestrian, 82, badly injured after being hit by car in Wellingborough

A man in his 80s was seriously injured in a collision in Northampton Road, Wellingborough, yesterday (Tuesday).

The collision happened at about 6.10pm just past the Stanwell Way junction in the town.

A police spokesman said: “A white Dacia Sandero, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Wellingborough, was travelling along Northampton Road towards the junction with Queensway and Kingsway when it was in collision with a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, an 82-year-old man from Wellingborough, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”

Magpas doctor Simon Lewis and paramedic Alex Pearce attended the incident in one of their rapid response vehicles.

A spokesman for Magpas said: “They had been called to treat a man who had been injured in a collision between a pedestrian and a car.

“The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the man (in his 80s) who had sustained a head injury and sedated him and placed him into a medically induced coma at the scene (providing him with A&E level care).

“The Magpas team then accompanied the patient to University Hospital Coventry via land ambulance.

“He was in a very serious but stable condition upon arrival.

“An EMAS Ambulance Service paramedic crew and Northamptonshire Police were also in attendance.”
