Parents at Northampton school to hand flowers to foreign mums to show them their families are welcome
A group of parents at a Northampton primary school will present flowers to foreign-born mums as a symbol to them that Northampton wants them to stay.
The half-a-dozen parents at Cedar Road Primary School, Abington, intend to give a flower to any immigrant mum or dad in the next few days.
It follows a vote in the EU referendum that saw Northampton vote overwhelming to leave and a subsequent handful of incidents of racism and hate speech directed at immigrants in different parts of the country.
Helena Holland said: “We just want to make sure they know that they and their families are welcome in Northampton and always will be.
“It’d be lovely if other people could do similar things to spread the message.”
