Traffic lights in Northampton stopped working this afternoon causing chaos for drivers at a supermarket crossroads.
All traffic lights on the Spencer Bridge Road junction were left in darkness for some time today (Monday), which meant drivers had to be extra cautious when edging into the centre of the road.
The out-of-action lights had further repercussions on surrounding traffic in the area as there were queues of vehicles trying to change direction at the lights.
Engineers were called out to carry out repairs at the junction just five days ago.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said: “We have been made aware that the traffic lights at the junction of Spencer Bridge Road and the Harlestone Road are currently not working.
“Engineers are now on site and are working to resolve the problem, which was caused by an electrical fault.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
It is understood that all traffic lights are now in working order and were fixed around 2.30pm.
