Northamptonshire Steelbacks are the second Northampton team to enjoy an open-top bus parade this year, following Northampton Football Club in April.

Northampton Borough Council’s leader Mary Markham said: “2016 has been a fantastic year for Northampton’s sporting teams and Northamptonshire Steelbacks’ recent Natwest T20 Blast victory is a great way to finish the summer. We are honoured to be holding a parade for the team and I look forward to congratulating the players at a reception at the Guildhall.”

Alex Wakely, Northants Steelbacks’ captain, said the support the have had from everyone associated with the town and the club has been “overwhelming”.

He said: “I love this club and town so much and it means the absolute world that we have been given the chance to show our trophy at the parade on Saturday. The support from fans this year has been the best I have ever played in front of and I hope we get a chance to chat to some of the people who have been behind us on Saturday.’
