Northbound traffic should exit at the junction at A43 and join the A43 northbound to the M1 J15a, then join the M1 northbound to J16. From there, motorists should join the A45 westbound to re-join the A5 at Weedon.

Southbound traffic should exit at the junction with the A45 and take the eastbound to the M1 at J16, then join the M1 southbound to J15a. From there drivers should exit at J15a to join the A43 southbound to re-join the A5 near Towcester, Highways England says.

Safer Community Team Sergeant for Daventry District, Sam Dobbs Tweeted: A5 closure: "If going to Mother's Day lunch at Narrow Boat from Weedon side, please don't cancel - pub still operating - tell us at road closure."
