A patient at Berrywood Hospital has been ordered to pay compensation after a nurse she attacked suffered a broken arm.

Christina Kelly, aged 22, who suffers from severe autism, assaulted four different members of staff in five attacks at the mental health hospital during last summer.

One saw nurse Janet Adeboye kicked so hard in the shin that she fell down, breaking an arm.

On another occasion, Kelly grabbed a male nurse by the throat and racially abused him.

She pleaded guilty today at Northampton Magistrates Court to three assaults, one charge of actual bodily harm and one charge of racially aggravated assault.

However the magistrate said that as Kelly - who has since been moved to St Andrew’s Hospital, in Billing Road - was already detained, hospital order would be pointless.

Instead Kelly was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay Mrs Adeboye £250 from the defendant’s benefits.
