Five photographs of unusual events in the Abington area of Northampton have been uncovered in the Chronicle & Echo’s archive.

A photo taken in 1979 reveals ‘town centre farmer’ Tony Beck who introduced pony and trap rides to Abington Park in 1979.

The 80-year-old wagonette could seat five adults and one-and-three-quarter-mile trips round the park on weekends and Bank Holidays during the summer months for 50p a time.

In the picture are coachman Mr Dave Waring and Mr Beck’s wife Cilla.

The Chron photographs also show flooding near to Abington Park and Church in 1987.

In 1994, the Chronicle & Echo took a photograph of Patrick Delaney and Neil Allison when they launched the new Abington Brewery Sixfields beer.

Finally, a picture taken at Abington Vale Middle School, which is not dated, shows two pupils called Adam and Divya with celebrities including Wolf from Gladiators and Timmy Mallett.
