Northants Fire & Rescue has issued a warning to people in the county to be careful with handcuffs during the Valentine’s Day weekend as the service is expecting a spike in callouts due to the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey effect’.

On the fire service’s Facebook page this morning, a spokesman said fire services up and down the country were expecting to deal with a number of incidents where people needed help to be released from handcuffs this weekend.

The spokesman said: “Fire and Rescue services up and down the country are warning of the “fifty shades effect”. Be careful with those handcuffs this Valentine’s Day. We do not want to have to come and cut them off.”
