Northants County Cricket Club has announced it is not intending to sell a pub it owns in Northampton, worth £550,000.

The County Tavern in Abington Avenue, which is owned by the cricket club, was due to go up for auction last week to raise funds for the forthcoming season.

However, chief executive Ray Payne said it had been withdrawn from the auction after the club “reconciled” its cash flow position.

He said: “It was always our aim if possible to retain one of the clubs most valuable assets. It should still not be ruled out as a possible course of action, but at this stage not a path we will be taking at the club.”
