Northamptonshire scout unit to travel to Uganda as part of project to help African schoolchildren

The Pitsford Explorer Unit, made up of boys and girls aged 14 to 18 years old, recently took part in a weekend full of activity at Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre in Staffordshire to give the youngsters an opportunity to work as a team ahead of the trip.

The weekend included abseiling, canoeing, high rope adventure, team building challenges and a zip wire.

Adult volunteer Matt Taylor said: “The weekend was action-packed, thrilling and amazing. The teenagers had so much fun trying out different activities and they also learnt a great deal about working together as a team.”

Nigel Taylor from the Scout Association said, “Scouting provides over 200 activities from abseiling to zorbing, creativity to international for boys and girls aged 6 to 18. We continue to grow because adult volunteers provide some great opportunities for young people. A six year old, might spend a night out camping whereas some teenagers will get involved in a community project in Uganda.”
