County residents who would like a health ‘MOT’ and a lifestyle make-over have been invited to a series of free events.
Northamptonshire Sport has joined forces with BBC Northampton to provide health checks and advice.
Working in partnership with other organisations to bring ‘Helen’s Big Health Check’ to people in the county and it has been promised to be bigger than ever before.
Radio Northampton’s Helen Blaby will broadcast in September from the events at Daventry Leisure Centre on Wednesday 19, The Pemberton Centre, Rushden on Thursday, 20 and Northampton’s County Cricket Ground on Friday 21.
Northamptonshire Sport will be working with leisure providers and sports clubs from the areas to offer a number of taster sessions in a variety of activities, including traditional sports like archery and bowls.
On offer will be team games of walking sports such as football and netball which are at a slightly slower pace than the running version, while still providing physical benefits.
There will also be the opportunity for attendees to try OTAGO exercise - training which is designed to increase balance, coordination and muscle strength as a way of preventing falls.
In addition to the physical activity taster sessions healthcare professionals will offer a variety of health checks: prostate cancer tests for men over 45 in the form of a blood test; mouth cancer screening; skin cancer screening and access to the University of Northampton’s podiatrists.
