Northamptonshire man dies in car crash in Leicestershire

Police have named a man from Corby who died in a car collision in Leicestershire last week.

Jak Thomas Cooney, 22, died after his blue Ford Mondeo was involved in a crash on the A606 in Somerby shortly before 11pm on Friday, April 8.

Mr Cooney and the driver of the second car, a black Jaguar Estate, both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have named the second victim as Andrew John Taylor, 64, of Barrow upon Soar.

Three women and a man were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

One of the women, who was a passenger in the Jaguar, remains in a critical but stable condition, and the other three injured people are in a stable condition.

The collision took place about 150 metres to the east of Pickwell Road.

Leicestershire Police would like to speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles being driven beforehand or the collision itself.
