A Northamptonshire man has denied 16 charges of production and possession of extreme images of abuse of children and animals.

Clifford Townsend, of Blackwell End, in Potterspury, pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of making indecent photographs of children, and four of possessing photographs of humans having sexual contact with animals, including dogs and a horse.

During a hearing at Northampton Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the 59-year-old grandfather claimed that the images, which date between 2007 and 2012, were downloaded as the result of a computer virus, not by himself.

The case will be heard at Northampton Crown Court later in the year.
