Northamptonshire cyclist Hannah Barnes, finished in 13th place at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this morning.

The 21-year-old athlete from Towcester competed in the 90km women’s road race, days after her younger sister, Alice, came fifth in the women’s cross country race.

Miss Barnes achieved a gold medal in the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011 and represented the county in the inaugural Women’s Tour, which passed Northampton, earlier this year.

She said: “I’m feeling really good, we had a plan and everything went to plan today.

“I’ll be at the closing ceremony tonight and then back to Towcester which will be really nice as I haven’t been home in a while, and then I have another big race coming up in London.

“It’s great to be coming away from the race with a gold medal for Team England.”

Lizzie Armistead and Emma Pooley scopped gold and silver medals for Team England during this morning’s race.
