A Northamptonshire car salesman who falsely claimed £12,000 after he took hundreds of miles off the mileometers of cars and then advertised them for sale has pleaded guilty to 17 counts of fraud.

Gershorn Hatinawedu, aged 39, ‘clocked’ a number of vehicles including Vauxhall Astras, VW Golfs and a Chrysler Cruiser and then advertised them for sale on the Auto Trader website.

In one case, Hatinawedu removed more than 130,000 miles off the mileometer of a VW Golf by advertising its mileage as 65,000 when it was in fact 196,895.

Hatinawedu made £12,000 as a result of his fraudulent behaviour.

Hatinawedu, of Islay Walk, Corby, admitted 17 charges of fraud when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Tuesday.

The case was adjourned until next month to allow for a pre-sentence report to be carried out.
