The Blades aerobatic team is celebrating 10 years of wowing the crowds with its breath-taking routines and show-stopping manoeuvres.

This year will be the tenth display season for the Northamptonshire-based civilian display team, which is also the world’s only aerobatic airline.

The Blades, a team of former Red Arrows and ex-RAF fast-jet pilots based at Sywell Aerodrome, were joined by vocalist Dan Gillespie and bassist Richard Jones from Brit rock band The Feeling to mark the anniversary year as they unveiled a brand new livery for 2015.

Dan and Richard took to the sky with The Blades for a close-formation aerobatic flight over the county.

During the event, The Blades also flew passengers from the team’s new sponsors during a formation flight with a Spitfire.

This year, The Blades are partnered by five different companies whose livery is included in the new aircraft design.

Aerobytes, a leading flight safety company who is the team’s title partner, Belcom Cables, Leigh Cables, the RAF Benevolent Fund and Aerobility.

Blade 1 Mark Cutmore, team leader of The Blades, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the start of The Blades’ tenth display season.

“Since the team formed we have performed more than 500 flying displays throughout the UK, Europe and the Middle-East and have flown more than 3,000 passengers on unforgettable formation flights at our events.

“The support that we have had since the very beginning has been phenomenal and we’d like to say a sincere thank you to all our friends, be they partners, clients or those who just enjoy watching the show.

“We’re really excited about what the future holds for the team and are particularly looking forward to working with our new partners as we head into our anniversary year and beyond.”

In addition to flying displays at air shows and other events, The Blades is the only display team in the world that is also fully licensed by the civil aviation authority to take passengers on close-formation aerobatic flights.
