Northampton van driver critically injured in robbery while delivering for Amazon

A Northampton delivery driver remains in hospital after thieves sped off in his white Transit van as he was clinging desperately to the windscreen.

Officers were called to the junction of Caludon Road and Swan Lane in Coventry just before 1pm on Monday (November 19) to reports that a man was hanging from the windscreen of the white Transit.

The vehicle made off, leaving the injured man on the ground and the 30-year-old was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Later that day, officers located the burnt out van on Lentons Lane, Coventry. It has since been recovered for forensic examination.

Coventry Live have named the victim as Oleg Madan.

Tributes were paid to the victim in a social media post on Amazon Delivery Drivers UK. It reads: "Hi all, unfortunately we had a sad incident [...] where one of our colleagues a driver from our Northampton Depo was attacked by robbers whilst he was delivering in Coventry, he is seriously injured and in a coma in a critical condition at the moment in hospital, if anyone may know any information about this please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Although the driver was making a delivery for Amazon he is employed by a third-party company called NGC Logistics. A spokeswoman for the company said: "This was a terrible incident and our thoughts are with the driver and his family.

"We encourage anyone who saw what happened to contact the police."

A spokesman for Amazon added: "Our thoughts are with the driver and his loved ones and we encourage any witnesses to the incident to contact the police."

Detective Sergeant Andy Malin from West Midlands Police force CID, said: “We are currently analysing video and CCTV footage and have spoken to a witnesses but are still urging anyone with information to get in touch.

“A man, who was just going about his daily job has been left seriously injured, it’s important that we find who is responsible as soon as possible.”
