Northampton supermarket evacuated after reports of a man with a '˜bladed weapon' in store

A supermarket in Northampton was evacuated this morning after a man was reported carrying a bladed weapon.

Shortly before 9am today shoppers were ushered out of the Waitrose store in Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe.

A police spokesperson said: “At about 8.45am today (Friday, July 8 ), police were called to an incident at Waitrose supermarket in Kingsthorpe, following reports of a man in possession of a bladed weapon.

“The shop was evacuated while officers dealt with the incident and a 30-year-old man was arrested and is currently in police custody.

“No-one was hurt during the incident.”
