An England basketball player from Northampton has been offered a free membership of a Northampton sports centre to help her career.
Holly Winterburn, who plays for England under 16s even though she is still only 14, has been asked to play for a semi-professional senior women’s team, the Leicester Riders.
She has played for Northants Basketball Club for three years, including the under 14s, under 16s and junior women’s team, and will continue to play for the under 16s team this season as well as Leicester Riders.
To support her basketball career, the teenager has been allowed to use the sports hall at Danes Camp Leisure Centre for free for an hour before school to practise her shooting.
She has also been nominated for Northampton Young Sportswoman of the Year.
Matt Harber, coach of Leicester Riders, said: “Holly has a bright future in the game of basketball and has already demonstrated a great attitude and approach towards her own development and training.
“Despite Holly only being young, we believe she will benefit greatly from being involved in a senior women’s programme such as our own.
“Her nomination for Northampton Young Sports Woman of the Year is much deserved.”
