A Duston family has won the perfect Christmas present, winning £1,000 to spend in the town thanks to Northampton Town Centre BID.

Joanne Prickett won the second of four prizes in the Golden Ticket Draw being run by the town’s Business Improvement District.

Joanne, who lives with her husband and two children, Daishy and Sennen, was in town last Sunday with her mother and daughters, shopping and visiting the annual Frost Fair.

Joanne, who works at a school in St James, will receive £1,000 in vouchers to spend in town centre businesses. She said: “I was taken completely by surprise when I got the phone call to say I’d won £1,000. I know people say this all the time but we never win anything, we just can’t believe it.

“We were in Northampton last week at the Frost Fair, which was fantastic. We went into one of the jewellers in town as it’s my daughter’s 18th birthday later this month and one of the shop assistants told us about the prize draw and gave us a ticket to fill in. My daughters did it for me and then we dropped it in one of the gold-coloured post boxes. We didn’t think any more about it until the phone call came on Saturday morning.

“My two girls love shopping in Northampton, Topshop for the eldest and my youngest likes New Look. December is always an expensive month for us with Christmas and my daughter’s birthday, so these vouchers have come just at the right time, we’re over the moon.

“I think we’ll let the kids decide where to spend some of the vouchers and I’d also like to treat my Mum to some jewellery as she was with us when we posted the ticket. We’re spending Christmas at home this year with my parents and we’ll definitely have a lot to celebrate.”

There will be two more Northampton shoppers in with a chance of winning £1000 in time for Christmas.

To be in with a chance of winning shoppers are being asked to complete a postcard sized entry form – which are displayed and distributed at many town centre outlets – and then post entries into one of six gold-coloured post boxes dotted around the town centre.

Sue Roberts, chairman of the Northampton Town Centre BID, said: “We’re delighted for Joanne and her family and it’s great to hear they’re looking forward to spending their vouchers in the fantastic businesses we have here in Northampton.

““We look forward to finding out who our third winner is later this week.”
