Twenty jobs have been created by the opening of a new roadside retail outlet SPAR shop on the M1 and A43 site.

Roadchef, one of the UK’s largest Motorway Service Area (MSA) operators, opened the new SPAR store offering grocery items and a selection of artisan products.

The Northampton MSA SPAR will feature the convenience group’s latest store design including an in-store bakery and a promise to sell goods that will meet an increasing demand from motorists for a wider range of healthy, fresh produce.

The opening has created 20 new jobs at the site, with team members taking part in the convenience store’s ongoing training and development programmes.

Together with other team members at the site, the 20-strong SPAR team will be responsible for serving more than 10,000 customers that pass through the Northampton MSA every day.

Roadchef expects that the new store will be popular with users of both the M1 and A43, as well as the local community.

Simon Turl, CEO of Roadchef, said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of our second SPAR at our Northampton North site.

“As one of our key MSA’s in the UK, we see Northampton as the perfect place to develop our portfolio of convenience store outlets.

“We pride ourselves on the opportunities we bring to the local community and we’re pleased to bring this new SPAR and 20 new jobs to the area.”
