Northampton school cancels two sixth form courses ahead of term start

Another Northampton school has cancelled sixth form courses days before the start of term.

Students enrolled on the BTEC double sport and A-Level geography courses at Malcolm Arnold Academy in Trinity Avenue have been informed that neither will be running when the new term starts next week, because of a lack of intake.

The news comes a day after Northampton College revealed it would be cancelling it's entire A-Level syllabus, leaving 40 students with just a week to find alternative sixth form study.

Chris Steed, executive principal at Malcolm Arnold Academy, said: “After careful consideration we have taken the decision to not continue to offer one A-Level and one BTEC course this year, having received very few applications for each course.

"We have held meetings with those students concerned and their parents and have worked with them to help them choose another subject to study at A level from the range of subjects we offer.”
