The owner of a Northampton salon has been shortlisted for a national award.

Johnny Seckington, owner of Seckingtons in Wellingborough Road, has been nominated for the Business Thinker title at the Most Wanted Awards.

A spokeswoman for Seckingtons said: “One of the biggest accolades in hairdressing, Johnny competed with salon owners from all over the UK to make it as finalist.

“Impressing the judges with his strategic thinking, incredible passion for team development and his overall devotion to the local community, Johnny takes his place in the shortlist for the awards with some of the industry’s biggest names,” she said.

Established in 2001, the Most Wanted Awards are hosted by trade magazine, Creative Head, to celebrate and reward outstanding teams and individuals working in UK hairdressing. Panels of highly respected experts such as fashion photographers, business specialists, beauty editors and international hair stylists judge the awards.

The team from Seckingtons will join Johnny to find out his fate at the grand final ceremony held this year at London’s Natural History Museum on Monday September 7 and will be hosted by comedian Johnny Whitehall.

The spokeswoman added: “To qualify for the title of Most Wanted Business Thinker, Mr Seckington submitted a dossier of the business strategies that he implemented in 2014, talking about his devotion to his salon and the people within it which has enabled Seckingtons to grow tremendously in turnover and profile this year. Judges were astounded by his dedication to the development of the Wellingborough Road and his campaign for the area to gain status as an upcoming business district in the town.”

Johnny said he was thrilled to have made the final five.

“I can’t quite believe it, I feel like I’ve already won in being shortlisted alone. I opened Seckingtons in 2009 with a small team and never dreamt that six years on we would be in the position that we are today. This last year I have dedicated to my team.

“I’m a great believer in training and development of people and so by taking money from elsewhere, I have been able to invest to offer my team more opportunities in their career and thus develop my own business.

“I am so grateful to all of the team and our loyal clients for making Seckingtons what it is today. This is like a dream come true for me, I can’t wait for the ceremony in London. September the 7th cannot come quickly enough!”
