Members of Northampton Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Northampton Becket thanked all those who had supported their appeal.

Andy Clarke, president of Northampton Becket, said the collection raised £7,221.22 through Santa and his sleigh. The sleigh visited areas across the town and there were collections at Sainsbury’s, Tesco in Clannell Road, and Rothersthorpe Services.

“A big thank you goes to all those who were involved in bringing Santa to the boys and girls and at the same time raising much-needed funds to support the people of Northamptonshire,” he said.

Meanwhile, Northampton Rotary Club raised just over £3,000 through its carols float in Abington Street, in the town centre.

Chairman of the fund-raising committee, Stan Evans, said: “We would like to thank all the people of Northampton who generously contributed to our fund raising. People responded enthusiastically to the carols and allowed us to collect just over £3,000 during our nine days in Abington Street,” he said.

“This, together with money collected at other venues, allowed us to donate £3,500 to the Mayor’s Fund for the Housebound of Northampton.

“To qualify as “housebound” a person has to be confined to their home or unable to get out without assistance, due to illness or disability,” he explained.
