A Northampton nightspot boss says a £250,000 bid to turn a tired 1980s built venue into a sports pub will return it to the ‘heart of the community’.

The Gallery in Farmhill Road, Southfields, is currently undergoing a major renovation and is due to reopen again on Friday, March 20.

A spokesperson for owners Punch Taverns said the 1980s built venue “had become a bit tired,” and is currently being given a ‘modern’ update.

The makeover is being funded jointly by Punch Taverns and their publican Partners Sally Jones and Daniel Sabaliouskas.

Ms Jones, who has worked in the pub for 20 years, said: “I’ve wanted to put this pub back at the heart of the community, where it can reflect community values and become a great place to be for locals, pub teams and other groups.

“With the support we’ve had from Punch Taverns, we’re confident we can succeed.”

When it opens again in March, the pub will be relaunched as a sports pub, with TV screens visible ‘wherever you sit’, a new sound system and a weekly round of entertainment.

The pub is due to show Sky Sports and BT Sport, and the racing channels, At the Races and Racing UK.

Punch Taverns say a ‘simple’ food menu will be on offer offering bar snacks such as burgers and pizzas.

New business development manager at Punch Taverns, Anthony Knowles, said: “We’re delighted to be investing in this pub.

“We think Sally and Daniel will be able to reposition The Gallery as one of the leading sports pubs in the Northampton area.”
