Public spaces in Northampton will be spruced up as part of a nationwide spring clean day later this month.

The first day of spring will be marked with a Community Clear Up Day on Saturday March 21 during which members of the public will be enoucraged to help tidy up their neighbourhoods.

Northampton Borough Council is supporting the Community Clear Up Day and neighbourhood wardens and park rangers are organising a number of spring clean ups around the town.

On the day there will be spring cleans happening in neighbourhoods, shopping areas and parks across Northampton and local residents and businesses are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

Councillor Mike Hallam, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for the environment, said: “The national clear up is a great way to encourage people of all ages to take responsibility for helping to look after their communities. We all have a part to play in keeping the places we live in and visit clear of litter.

“I hope the day is a success across the country and that the Northampton events are also well supported.”

Businesses, community groups and individual residents can either take part in one of the borough council organised clear ups or lead an event of their own.
