Northampton man has tag conditions altered so he can smoke in his garden

Andzejs Jadevicus, aged 37, of Elizabeth Walk, had failed to provide a specimen of breath to a police officer in February and as a result was given an electronic tag to ensure he kept to a curfew.

But he was back in court yesterday to ask magistrates to vary the conditions of his bail yesterday in Northampton, which doesn’t allow him over the threshold of two different addresses during certain hours.

Mr Jadevicus, who was holding a pack of cigarettes in the dock, said: “I’m can only be at two addresses - my house and where I look after my kids.

“You can’t smoke inside and I just want to know if the area can be widened so I can go outside to smoke.”

He came to court asking for the conditions to be altered on one house.

But magistrate Mike Billingham said they would grant the variation on both properties.

Mr Billingham added: “It might be in your best health interests not to smoke at all.”

The defendant said: “I know, I’m trying.”
