Adam Durzo, of Kettering Road North, Northampton, appeared before Northampton Magistrates’ Court yesterday (November 28).

The assault took place in the early hours of October 29 after the victim got into a car she mistakenly believed to be a taxi, outside the Charles Bradlaugh pub in Earl Street.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Durzo was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Northampton Crown Court on Friday, December 22.

Detective Inspector Mark Hopkinson said: “We would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen a light-coloured Vauxhall Zafira in suspicious circumstances in the areas of Earl Street and The Racecourse overnight on October 28 and 29, the night the clocks went back.

“We want people to have an enjoyable night out but would encourage them to be vigilant and take simple steps to help them stay safe.

“We are satisfied the vehicle involved in this offence was not a taxi nor had the appearance of one. However, we would continue to urge anyone having a night out to plan their journey home in advance.

“Either pre-book with a reputable private-hire company or take a Hackney cab from the taxi-rank. Don’t flag down cars and always check you are getting in the one you booked. Most of all, stay together and travel together, look out for each other and make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.”
