A 35-year-old man from Northampton has been given a seven-year jail sentence after he was convicted of raping a woman.

James Allen, of Delapre Crescent Road, appeared at Northampton Crown Court for a sentencing hearing after he was found guilty by a jury of raping a woman in an incident in 2003.

The court heard the rape had a deeply traumatic effect on the victim.

Allen, a self-employed plumber, was given a seven year jail sentence. He is likely to serve half before being released on licence.

He will have to sign the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life.
