Northampton joins nationwide celebration of raising of Commonwealth flag

The Commonwealth flag will be raised by the Mayor of Northampton outside the Guildhall today, Monday March 13.

Northampton Borough Council is inviting residents to join them at the ceremony which is taking place for the fourth year running.The short ceremony will take place from 9.50am, during which the Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Christopher Malpas, will address guests and Jessica Evans, a Northampton Sea Cadet, will read a special Commonwealth affirmation. The raising of the flag will follow at 10am.Across the world, 950 flags will be raised at the same time by local authorities, community groups, ex-servicemen, sea and air cadets and many more.Councillor Malpas said: “The flag raising event on Monday is a fantastic way for Northampton residents to link together with citizens of the Commonwealth.“We hope that as many people as possible join us as we show our support of the Commonwealth and celebrate its values.”
