Northampton-based independent business energy supplier Opus Energy has been recognised by the Sunday Times as one of the UK’s 100 Best Companies to Work For 2015.
With more than 500 employees in Northampton, the firm has ranked 87 overall and it is the only company headquartered in the town recognised on the list.
Based on responses from its own employees, Opus Energy was shown to have very good levels of employee engagement across eight factors, including how employees feel about their manager, personal growth, team, and pay and benefits.
Annamarie Petsis Jones, HR Director, says: “We have worked hard to get our employees engaged with the business from day one, by investing in their wellbeing, benefits and training, so it’s brilliant that Opus Energy has been recognised as one of the UK’s top companies to work for.
“Our results in every category have improved since we last took part in the Best Companies to Work For survey in 2013, with particular standouts being improvements in personal growth (up 6%), feelings about the organisation (up 5%), and how employees value their line manager (up 5%).
“We implemented a new approach to ultimately ensure that our employees know we are as dedicated to them as we are to our customers, which has paid off. Our employee retention rates have increased, and 60% of management roles now go to internal candidates.”
Not only has the company experienced significant growth since it was established in 2002, and recruited 100 employees across its sites in Northampton and Oxford in 2014, it is also looking to continue to support its ongoing success with the recruitment of up to 100 new employees in 2015.
The company was also recently awarded the ‘Putting the Customer First’ accreditation by Customer First UK Ltd and was ranked first by B2B energy buyers for customer service for small to medium-sized enterprises by independent research agency Datamonitor.
