People are invited to join in a minute’s worth of noise in Northampton today as part of an event to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT).

The event will start in the Guildhall courtyard at noon with councillors and representatives from community groups set to give short speeches.

This will be followed by a ‘minute of noise’ at 12.15pm, which organisers say aims to raise awareness of the day and of the many people across the world “who are unable to speak out due to homophobia, transphobia, hate crime and prejudice.”

Those attending are encouraged to bring along instruments to make the minute of noise as a show of defiance against discrimination towards lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender internationally.
