Northampton couple call in the fire brigade for a wedding escort with a difference

A long-serving former firefighter from Northampton could think of no better way to arrive in style on his wedding day - than in a bright red fire engine.

Newlyweds Dave and Yvonne Sinclair only met on a dating website 18 months ago and tied the knot in Brafield-on-the-Green on Saturday.

But in shunning the traditional limousine or horse and carriage, Thorplands man Dave called in the favour of an old colleague.

He arranged for an iconic Scania fire engine to pick him and Yvonne up and take them to St Lawrence Church in the Northamptonshire village.

He said: “I was in the fire brigade for 30 years and my wife said she had always wanted to go in a fire truck.

“So I thought, why not do it on the wedding day?”

The Fire engine, hired courtesy of the firm Firecover.net, took Dave and Yvonne from the church to their reception in Great Houghton village hall.

“Most people thought it was absolutely amazing,” said Dave.

“People turn up in nice cars to weddings all the time, but we just wanted to be a bit different.

Dave, 55, had been due to relocate to Koh Samui in Thailand after retiring fro the fire service two years ago.

But when he met self self-employed Yvonne, 53, online he changed his mind.

“I had the ticket, I had the house, I was ready to go. But I’m so glad I didn’t,” he said.
