Northampton Borough Council to wave through plans for thousands of new homes near New Duston

Two applications (A and B) make up the submitted Bloor Homes plans for the site to the west of New Sandy Lane bordering New Duston, near Harpole, and the council’s recommendation is wave through the proposals with no objection.

Application A outlines the construction of 1,750 homes, a primary school and a mixed use centre with – among others – a convenience store, restaurants, cafes, a pub, and a hot food takeaway, all within an 83 hectare site.

To build the houses existing barns would have to be demolished.

Application B relates to a smaller 30 hectare site within the overall 83 hectare site.

The aforementioned primary school and mixed use centre also feature in the plans, however, rather than building 1,750 homes it proposes to construct 600.

The site extends across the borders of both Daventry District Council and South Northamptonshire Council land.

As a result of this, Northampton Borough Council is acting as a consultee to the project.

In so far as the design of the planned properties, there is an indication it will be a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes and flats, ranging from one to five-bedroom properties, with a proportion of all new housing to be affordable, the type and tenure of which is to be determined.

Just under 40 hectares will be open space and recreational with six sports pitches planned.

The plans will be discussed at the planning committee meeting on December 19.
