The search for the most inspirational woman in Northampton has been launched.
Organisers are looking for nominations for women who have inspired others and make a difference to people’s lives or the wider community.
Northampton Borough Council Women’s Forum has teamed up with BBC Radio Northampton to present the award which celebrates the achievements of women who live or work in Northampton.
The Inspirational Woman Award aims to pay tribute to those women who you feel have been an inspiration. There are hundreds of unsung heroines who work hard all year round and show massive commitment to making a difference. The winner could be someone who has been an inspiration in their community, helpful to neighbours, achieved in their careers, been a fantastic role model, a rock for family and friends or who simply makes time for others.
Last year’s worthy winner was Susanne Rees who was chosen out of more than 60 amazing women for her personal strength in overcoming serious illness in her 20s and for her tireless work helping disabled people access sport.
Councillor Anna King, Northampton Borough Council assistant cabinet member for community engagement and chair of the Northampton Women’s Forum, said: “We had a record number of entries last year which was fantastic, and just goes to show that our town is full of strong, caring women who are an inspiration to others.
“We are hoping for even more nominations for 2015. There are many women out there who make a difference through what they do every day. They deserve to be recognised. So if you know of someone, please vote for them.”
Nomination forms can be completed electronically on Northampton Borough Council’s website www.northampton.gov.uk/inspirationalwomen or for a hard copy telephone 01604 837829. People can nominate friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours, volunteers or people they know through school or clubs.
Nominations will go forward to the Inspirational Woman Award panel members who will shortlist finalists ahead of the awards ceremony on Saturday 7 March, the date of International Women’s Day which will be celebrated at the Guildhall.
The closing date for nominations is February 6.
