NO jobs were lost when a Next out-of-town store in Northampton closed, the company has insisted.

The Next store in St James Retail Park closed at the weekend with no prior announcement made by the company.

However, since the closure, the company has said there were no redundancies as a result.

A spokesman said: “The recent closure of the Next store on St James Retail Park is due to Next opening two new stores within the Northampton area in the past year.

“All staff have been located to other stores in and around the area,” the spokesman added.

The closed store was near the St Peter’s Way roundabout, which has suffered regular mile-long traffic queues in recent months.

The closure of the shop, which was a Next Home and Children’s store, comes after the opening of a town centre Next, which primarily sells clothes, in the Grosvenor Centre.
